Steelman Industries provides the complete solution to meet your Power Factor needs with the Steelman VAR MANAGER Automatic Power Factor Correction System. This microprocessor controlled capacitor system is designed to continuously regulate the Power Factor to your specified levels by adjusting the amount of KVAR that is connected to the electrical distribution system via separately staged capacitor banks. As plant loads vary, the VAR MANAGER monitors the system power requirements and switches on or off the appropriate capacitor banks to maintain the desired power factor. The automatic control of the capacitor banks insures that overcorrection will not occur. The installation requires the connection of the VAR MANAGER to the main distribution system along with a current transformer located at the service entrance.
The VAR MANAGER utilizes a building block technique of three phase capacitors, to achieve the best combination of performance, reliability, and ease of maintenance. Each capacitor bank incorporates multiple three phase cells that are wired in parrell for three phase operation. Steelman uses the 525 Volt rated capacitors in its 480 Volt models as a standard feature, insuring outstanding performance, efficiency, and prolonged life expectancy. Steelman three-phase capacitor cells are available in both oil-filled and dry type. Both have longer life ratings than single phase cells. The Steelman design isolates any capacitor failures while keeping the rest of the unit online.
The modular construction of the VAR MANAGER systems is shown below. The cabinets are available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, customized for the specific needs and size restrictions of the application. Each capacitor bank consists of internal three phase fusing, a heavy duty contactor, an air inductor coil (to reduce capacitor inrush currents), and the capacitor modules. The cabinets are fan cooled. Outdoor enclosures are also available. The optional panel meters give you an instantaneous reading system amperage and capacitor amperage. The Power Factor Controller displays the system Power Factor and is programmed with many additional features.
